Shoes with attitude

It all started with the Mobius, a concept shoe for women, yet also a sign of infinity symbolizing a story without a beginning or an end. This might sound a bit far-fetched, but considering the Mobius has sprouted from the combined genius and philosophy of famous Dutch architect Rem D. Koolhaas and the English shoemaker Galahad J.D. Clark, you might get a clearer idea. Koolhaas and Clark co-founded the company United Nude, where United stands for the international teams that take part in the production, and Nude for the open way and the direct recognition with which this is done.

Their launch of the United Nude shoe Mobius in March 2003 proved to be only the beginning, the design of the shoes and other products have an interesting and avant-garde appeal. The shoes seem to be manufactured out of a single piece of material, hence the no beginning nor an end. The silhouette is open and unusual at first sight, yet one can still recognize the classic simplicity in its shape. They are re-intepretations of architecture, archetypes or existing classic objects. The heel of the Eamz pump is the same as the leg of one of Ray and Charles Eames most famous chairs.

United Nude boutiques can be found in New York and London, but can also be bought at many shops all over the world. Future projects, such as clothing, eyewear, bags, furniture and books are also in the making...
