Jan Taminiau plays with oppositions: check, check, check mate. The JANTAMINIAU SS09 couture collection consists of 6 silhouettes inspired by Dutch folklore and garnished with details of the armor of a post-apocalyptic warrior.

A red, white and blue checkered fabric is forms the base of the collection. It is an antique handwoven Chinese fabric, fringed with Swarovski crystals and decorated with traditional embroidery. The application of metal press buttons renders the pieces multifunctional: they allow to play with the shapes and in addition to influence the movement. The collars and head-dresses are inspired by the ‘col fraise’ and translated into modern folded shapes.

The JANTAMINIAU SS09 Couture collection is nostalgic and romantic, as well as vigorous and dynamic. The mix of cultures that is particular tothe Dutch identity is Jan Taminiau’s main source of inspiration.

ABOUT JAN TAMINIAU
Jan Taminiau was born in 1975 in The Netherlands. In 2001 he graduates at the Academy of Art and Design in Arnhem, and signs up for the master’s programme at the Fashion Institute of Arnhem in 2003. After various traineeships at Olivier Theyskens, Oscar Süleyman, corsetier Hubert Barrere and lacemaker Hurel in Paris, he ventured abroad for the first time with a master’s project entitled ‘Unfolding’, which he presented at the Paris Fashion Week. This was followed by a window exhibition at Colette in Paris.

In 2003 he launches his own label, JANTAMINIAU and holds his first show in Paris in 2005. The “Empire Collection” is then presented at the Fondation Cartier. In July 2008, JANTAMINIAU presented his Couture collection «Passe-Partout» and created with the same inspiration his first ready-to-wear collection presented in October.
