All of a sudden she was there! The cute girl from Seventh Heaven got her own reality show that launched her career and proved to have a personality that was ready to handle stardom. Thousands of girls all of the world were inspired by her style, music and dealt with break-ups singing 'La La!'. After a string of hits, 'that Saturday Night Life incident' and lots of tabloid coverage, the teenage star strikes back with a new album entitled 'I am me'. Iconique has a chat with Ashlee Simpson...
What's keeping you busy at the moment?
I'm about to go to New York for the TRL awards! It should be fun!
Are you happy with your new album?
I love my new album. It's very personal, and was a lot of fun to make so I'm proud of it!
Did it feel good to use your album as a tool to respond to all the tabloids' gossip stories?
I didn't have the tabloids in mind when writing my album. I just wrote from my own personal experiences in life.
What do you do to take your mind off of things?
I love to write so that helps. Also, hang out with my friends. Being with your close friends is always a great way to take your mind off things!!
What gives you energy/inspiration?
Love, laughter, friends, and family
In one of the episodes of 'the Ashlee Simpson Show' we saw you experimenting with your hair, dying it a black lead colour; now that you are famous do you feel it's more difficult to experiment with your looks since the media is watching you all the time?
Not really. I've always been one to change my looks quite frequently!
And you went blonde again, why is that?
I just wanted to go back to my roots.
Your latest album is entitled 'I am me', who is Ashlee Simpson? How would you describe yourself?
I made that the title meaning no matter what I go through in life, I will always be true to myself.
How you would you describe your style (fashion-wise)?
My style is always changing. Rocker/chic I guess.
A lot of your colleagues are styled to the point where they seem to have lost the concept of who they themselves really are. In an industry where personas are dictated by stylists and 'image makers', and where everyone looks like a cookie-cutter automaton, how does one set oneself apart?
Be you. Wear what you feel comfortable in.
