Karl Lagerfeld Joins H&M

Karl Lagerfeld seems to have realized that if you can't beat them, you'd better join them. The Kaiser's latest project is a capsule fall collection for budget retailer H&M. The fast fashion chain is famous for knocking off and turning out catwalk styles with the speed of lighting. Currently, H&M features $49.90 pink tweed jackets that look somewhat familiar to the $4,000 Chanel originals. But as Ivana so famously put it: Don't get mad – get everything. Supposedly, Karl is considering appearing in the chain store's super lucrative ad campaign.

Hmmmm, although I love Karl's designs, I'd rather not see him go highstreet!

I love him, but this is not my cup-of-tea, I rather spend $$$ on an exclusive item with all the craftmenship than on a cheap one at H&M. Karl shouldn't do high street, he has cash enough anyway.

It's just a marketing strategy.
H&M can attract more consumers by Karl.
However Karl won't lose his own consumers of this.

And it will reinforce H&M reputation of being fashionably affordable. They do an excellent job, of course they copy a lot, but still the speed they do it at is fantastic.

I'll make sure to get an item or two, just it's a unique collection and Karl is, the legendary Karl!

I was so intrigued by the ad campaign on the H&M website I decided to go check it out. I was so~~~~~~~~~ upset !
I personally dont mind H&M at all but wow... they really hit the bottom. the quality of womens collection was really brutal. Insted of Karl's, I bought a nice cozy sweater genuine H&M and got my but outta there.

I've seen worse but I see it as a one time special you will wear for the hype or keep as a collector piece, I don't think it has been made to last a long time. The picture as a whole, the combinations, are quite good imho.

I actually like the collection, i have to amit this was my first time i ever been and bought something in a H&M but i just couldnt resist this fabulous Karl Lagerfeld for H&M suit. i like the sweaters too. thumbs up!

BERLIN (AFP) - High-profile German designer Karl Lagerfeld says he will not work again with the Swedish mass market retailer Hennes and Mauritz despite the success of his cut-price collection of clothes for the chain.

"It was great to work with the people at H and M as we all helped each
other to make it a success," Lagerfeld said in an interview with Stern magazine to be published on Thursday.

"But the incomprehensible decision of the management in Stockholm has
taken away any desire to do it again."

The clothes Lagerfeld designed for H and M retailed at a fraction of the
prices of his normal lines for fashion houses Chanel, Fendi and his
eponymous Lagerfeld Gallery.

The collection sold out within hours of going on sale last Friday in 20 European countries and the United States.

But Lagerfeld said he was disappointed by H and M's decision to produce a highly limited number of each garment, saying the policy had defeated his intention of allowing people who could not normally afford his clothes to buy designer clothing.

"They did not make the clothes in sufficient quantities," he told the magazine.

"I find it embarrassing that H and M let down so many people... I don't think that is very kind, especially for people in small towns and countries
in eastern Europe.

"It is snobbery created by anti-snobbery."

But Lagerfeld also said he was disappointed by H and M's decision to produce the collection in larger sizes than he had intended.

"What I designed was fashion for fluid and slim people. That was the original idea," said the designer who has himself shed 42 kilograms (92
pounds) in recent years.

And Lagerfeld said he was amused that some of his clothes for H and M were now being sold at inflated prices on Internet auction sites.

"Everything goes. It's typical of the times we live in."

The collection included jeans for just under 50 euros (65 dollars), shirts for 39.90 euros or sequin-embroidered jackets at 99 euros.
